school boy ''Wedding Videographer'' lies about his age, skills, charges $1,900 and wrecks wedding video

Wedding planning can be stressful, finding credible wedding suppliers amongst a sea of suppliers to choose from takes a lot of due diligence and time. A story of a year 12 school boy ‘‘wedding videographer’’ has recently hit global news headlines. Brides Tegan and Amy, who are just two brides of a dozen who paid $1900 AUD (that’s just over £1000+ sterling) for what was described as something like ‘‘Blair Witch Project’’ style wedding film. Let’s check out this negative story and see what we can learn from it…

Underwhelming wedding videography

There are around a dozen brides who have requested their money back. Some have not what was promised in terms of their original agreement and all feel like they have not been given the same quality and level of wedding videos that were shown on the Simplicity Films website. Bride Amy said in an interview "He's got our memories that we can't take back. It breaks my heart"

Young Ashley quoted a seven-month turn around time for a 45-minute cinematic film, when these were delivered it was more like a horror movie than a beautiful and romantic recollection of these bride’s wedding days. They are said to have terrible audio, and shaky camera movements, either focused on other family members or the bride’s bum.

Teagan said: “The footage of me walking down the aisle is so shaky and so disgusting. He’s cut off my head, and my dad’s head, and most of it is focused on my bum. It’s horrible.” What’s more, the brides were allegedly promised raw footage too, but they say they never received it.

It’s not just brides he has let down also, as there have been sub-contractors to whom he owes money too. He admitted that he was “in over his head.” His website has currently been taken down. Apparently, Ashley’s dad ( who he lives with as he is only 16+ years old) will be refunding the distraught brides.

Price vs value when booking a wedding videographer or wedding supplier for your wedding

We will need to think about the important distinction between price and value. Price is arbitrary and value is fundamental. If someone was selling gold bars for £10 - the price of the gold bars is £10 each, yet even though they are priced at £10 each the value of them is much more.

Leveraging the difference between price and value will be your most effective investment strategy when booking all your wedding filmmakers and wedding suppliers for your wedding. Some wedding suppliers may be overpriced just as much as they are underpriced - so you need to find your ‘gold bar’ wedding supplier!
